In a 4-0 vote, the Plan Commission approved Tuesday a proposal to build a permanent concession stand and restroom facility at the Glenbrook South High School Titan stadium.

The proposed 1,320-square-foot facility will have two windows for concessions, one window for Glenbrook South Titans Booster Club sales, and men’s and women’s bathrooms, each with a capacity for six stalls, according to a staff report. If approved, the facility will be built in the southwest corner of the stadium, according to village planning manager Jeff Rogers.

The Booster Club is raising money to build the facility, which would replace the stadium’s portable bathrooms and concession stand trailer, with most of the proceeds from a benefit being held later this month going toward the project, said Hellena Chrones, benefit chairperson.

The building is projected to cost $500,000, and the booster club hopes to raise between $300,000 and $350,000 for the project, Booster Club board member Bob Szafranski said. The club hopes the remaining funds will come from the district, he said.

“(The facility) will be a nice addition to the Glenbrook South campus,” he said. “We are pleased with the progress it is making with the village.”

The district won’t know the exact cost of the project until construction companies place bids later this spring, and the Board of Education must approve bidding and financing before construction can begin, according to Supt. Michael Riggle.

Riggle has said the district supports the booster club’s efforts to build the facility, and will work with the club to help it complete the project by August.

Commissioners did not discuss the proposal, and commissioners Michael Burton and Mark Igleski did not attend the meeting. The proposal will be discussed at the March 21 Board of Trustees meeting.
