The autopsy of a 39-year-old man discovered in a garage fire Sunday in Lake Forest indicates his death was caused by the fire, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.

The man was identified as a Lake Forest resident, who suffered both burns and smoke inhalation, Cooper said.

The classification of his death will not be determined until other tests like toxicology are finished, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the Lake Forest Fire Department was not immediately available Tuesday. Lake Forest Police Commander Craig Lepkowski said on Tuesday that the case is not a homicide.

Cooper said the man’s family has been notified.

The man was discovered in the garage area of the home when fire officials responded to a call at 11:26 a.m. Sunday to a fire in the 700 block of Waveland Road. The fire was in a garage at the home, and was extinguished within minutes, according to the fire department.
