Each week New Home Marketplace asks questions of area homebuilders. Pat Curran, president of West Point Builders, answers this week’s questions.
Q: What type of landscaping does West Point Builders include?
— Tammy, St. Charles
A: We include a larger than typical quantity of bushes, plantings, trees and mulch to create an attractive and private setting for our homes. We sod the front of the homes and seed the rear yards, protecting the seeds under a blanket of straw. In the Heritage and Kingston Series of homes, which feature private gardens, buyers can opt for additional plantings.
Q: How do you select subcontractors to work on your homes and how are they supervised?
— Ken, Aurora
A: Because West Point Builders has been in business for 60 years, we have long-standing relationships with many of the subcontractors or partners as we refer to them. As the need arises to partner with new subcontractors, we leave nothing to chance. We carefully research their price structures and the quality of their work as observed on other projects. Then we lay out initial work projects for them, and we are thorough in our quality control, using check lists we have created for this purpose.
The construction superintendent supervises the work of all subcontractors through a series of landmark checks as construction progresses. These include pre-construction, framing, mechanical, pre-drywall checks, and city inspections as well. Either the project manager or myself conduct inspections at key points in the construction.
To further ensure the buyers’ satisfaction with their homes, we offer excellent warranties, including a 10-year structural warranty we provide for our buyers through Professional Warranty Corporation.
In addition, we conduct thorough new home orientations. Educating buyers about the homes is an ongoing process, and when we take them through their completed homes before closing, they are encouraged to open every window and door, and learn how to use every element of the home’s heating and cooling plant, appliances, and every other element that may require an explanation. This is especially helpful for first-time homebuyers for whom owning a home is a new experience. We want every buyer to have the comfort level necessary for maximum enjoyment of the home.
As a family-owned and operated business with a lengthy record of success, West Point Builders has earned our respected reputation by making sure that every buyer receives a quality home along with a positive experience.
