In November 2012, veteran Washington lobbyist Daniella Landau forwarded Mayor Rahm Emanuel articles about Smith Electric Vehicles, which Emanuel later announced would open a facility in Chicago creating hundreds of jobs. Less than three months later, Emanuel asked Landau to “talk sense to the smith electric folks” and Landau told company executives the mayor felt “insulted and frustrated.” Smith Electric never opened a Chicago facility.
