To the editor,
On behalf of the members of North Shore Moms for Change, I am writing this to support the caucus-endorsed slate for the Northbrook Village Board. North Shore Moms for Change includes 70 like-minded moms who formed an alliance to preserve the rights of future generations. Our group had the pleasure of meeting with Sandy Frum, Kathryn Ciesla and Muriel Collison to better understand their stance on issues including gun safety, LGBTQ rights, the Green Acres development and business in downtown Northbrook, to name a few. We were impressed and offered our endorsement.
We considered many things before deciding. We want our children to grow up in a safe environment and to receive an exemplary public-school education. We also want our children to grow up understanding that all people should be treated with respect, no matter their skin color, gender, religion or sexual orientation. What greater way to show that all voices matter than by having a board that more accurately reflects our community? We would accomplish this by adding another highly qualified woman and a highly qualified person of color to the board. Additionally, Ciesla, Collison and Han are attorneys, which we consider an asset. A familiarity with legal documents make these candidates qualified to understand a 200-page budget.
We also considered which candidates would be effective team players. Our trustees need to work well together to help Northbrook prosper and be a safe, embracing community for all of the people who live and work here. They do not need to agree with one another on every issue, but they do need to debate issues respectfully.
Please join us in casting your three votes for Ciesla, Collison and Han this April 4th (early voting begins on March 20th).
