An Indian Prairie School District 204 administrator has been hired to be Naperville School District 203’s new assistant superintendent for assessment and accountability.
Patrick Nolten, currently District 204’s executive director for research and assessment, will assume his new position July 1. His role will be to analyze student performance on assessment tests over time and provide the administration, school board, staff and parents with an interpretation of the results.
“This is a critical position for us with the retirement of Assistant Superintendent Tim Wierenga, and we are excited to have Dr. Nolten join us,” Superintendent Dan Bridges said.
Wierenga is retiring at the end of the school year. His base salary for the 2016-17 school year was $166,349, plus $47,208 in benefits, including annuities, pension, Social Security, health and vehicle allowance.
In District 204, Nolten was paid a base salary of $149,475, in addition to receiving $22,782 for other benefits and $864 in retirement enhancements. His base salary in District 203 will be $145,000.
Nolten’s experience in leading assessment and research, as well as his knowledge of linking curriculum to assessments, will contribute to District 203’s efforts to close its achievement gap, Bridges said.
“We are pleased that he is here at this pivotal time for Naperville 203,” he said.
Nolten said he looks forward to working in District 203.
“I know I have big shoes to fill. It will be great to be a part of an exemplary school district,” he said.
Besides his work in research and assessment, Nolten has extensive experience in educational and school psychology.
He was an assistant professor in the school psychology program at Northern Illinois University and in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Medical Center. Nolten also spent years as a psychologist and staff development coach and was a clinical child psychologist.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s in educational/school psychology and a doctorate in educational/school psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He also has a master’s degree in educational administration and educational leadership from Northern Illinois University, where he is currently working on his superintendent endorsement and certification.
