Waiting for the arrival of spring is an annual rite of passage in the Midwest.
While spirits are lifted as snow and cold give way to warmer days, homeowners face a new risk as clogged gutters designed to move rainwater away from the home can begin to overflow.
According to Cliff Miller, general manager Beldon Home Solutions, the most obvious signs that a homeowner’s gutters may have a problem can first appear in the spring when fall and winter debris cause clogs, unseen leaks and overflows that can initiate costly water damage to other parts of the home.
“When water begins running over the front or back of a clogged gutter, which is attached to the home, this can cause major soffit or fascia issues as well as water leaking into the home,” says Miller.
Some solutions, such as screens, filters or toppers, help block debris from entering the gutter, but often cause other problems. Miller says many gutter solutions may block debris from entering the gutter but debris is then trapped on top, creating a shelf that collects more debris. Sometimes so much debris can collect on top that water cannot enter the gutter, running right over the top, and relegating the gutter to being ineffective. This makes the home vulnerable to serious water damage.
LeafGuard Residential Gutter Systems are a patented one-piece design that integrates the gutter and a curved hood. “The design uses the scientific principle of liquid adhesion to allow water to flow into the gutter while leaves and debris are deflected away.
“Our patented system will increase your home’s value and you will have more time to do things you enjoy rather than cleaning gutters,” says Miller. “Furthermore, LeafGuard is Good Housekeeping Approved and each system is backed with three written warranties. Our technicians have installed more than 40,000 systems in the Chicagoland/NW Indiana area since 1995.”
