Questions from residents who have received renewal notices for electricity service from MC Squared have prompted the city of Park Ridge to publish a response and direction for customers looking to compare electric costs.

According to the city, a number of residents have contacted City Hall recently regarding letters they have received from electric supplier MC Squared containing renewal information.

Residents who received these letters selected MC Squared as their electric supplier in 2015 and, if they would like to continue using the company as their supplier, no further action is needed, the city said in a statement.

According to the city, residents who would like to switch to another supply company must cancel their service with MC Squared by calling 855-740-9992 or emailing cancel@mc2energyservices.com.

The city recommends that Park Ridge residents looking to change electricity visit the Citizens Utility Board rate calculator page to compare prices at www.cubpowercalculator.com.

In 2015, Park Ridge residents were given the option of staying with MC squared or switching to an alternative supplier, like ComEd.

Residents and business owners became customers of MC Squared three years earlier after the city entered into an electrical aggregation program. At the time, Park Ridge was a member of the North Shore Electrical Aggregation Consortium, but city staff decided to suspend involvement two years ago due to questions about how much residents might save and rising electric rates due to competition.

Even with an alternative electricity supplier, residents and businesses still receive bills from ComEd that include costs for existing ComEd services, like delivery and infrastructure maintenance.
