Park Forest police said Wednesday that a suspect in a fatal shooting Monday remains in custody although charges had yet to be filed.
The early morning shooting in the 22100 block of Central Park Avenue resulted in the death of 19-year-old Jeremiah Ayers of Harvey, and his death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
In a posting Monday on the department’s Facebook page, Park Forest police said the shooting, which occurred shortly after 4 a.m., was not a random act and appeared to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two adults known to each other. Police at the time said they had taken a 29-year-old man into custody.
In a posting Wednesday, police said detectives are continuing to work with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County state’s attorney “to complete the investigation” into the shooting. The department, in the posting, said it was extending “its deepest sympathy” to Ayers’ family, and that “we continue to seek justice for” him and all crime victims.
