The Bears waived defensive lineman Ego Ferguson on Friday in an expected move that cuts ties with the team’s 2014 second-round draft pick. The current regime, led by general manager Ryan Pace, inherited Ferguson in 2015 and was never sold on his athleticism.

Ferguson’s departure leaves only six Bears who were drafted before the arrival of Pace and coach John Fox: right guard Kyle Long (2013, first round), cornerback Kyle Fuller (2014, first), defensive lineman Will Sutton (2014, third), running back Ka’Deem Carey (2014, fourth), punter Pat O’Donnell (2014, sixth) and left tackle Charles Leno (2014, seventh).

Ferguson was the 51st pick in 2014 by former general manager Phil Emery, who envisioned him as a shade tackle. Ferguson ended up with two sacks and 36 tackles in 20 games (one start). He last played in Week 4 of 2015, having spent two long stints on injured reserve (knee, shoulder) since.
