The news media’s created their own catastrophe. Their failure to be honorable and honest during the election cost their credibility tremendously. Former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt bypassed the media in the 1930s. He went on radio with fireside chats, talking directly to the public. The media decided maybe they shouldn’t be so prejudiced against him. President Donald Trump, because of the internet, can go directly to the people, expressing his opinions. Good, bad or indifferent, this is how things will be done. The media has to change their way of doing things to stay around. Many buy the newspaper to read the sports section, obituaries, comics and columnists they like. The media brought the problem upon themselves. They have to solve it.

Why is it that President Donald Trump gets criticized whenever he tries to do something good for the United States to fix the garbage that former President Barack Obama and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did? Give Trump a break. Let the guy do something before criticizing him. Maybe, if people criticized every little thing Obama didn’t do for the United States and how he ruined the country by making side deals then we wouldn’t be in trillions of dollars of debt. We’re falling apart thanks to Obama and Hillary Clinton. Let Trump do his job and repair the problems they made. Let’s not forget former President George W. Bush and his father, former President George H.W. Bush.
Cell phones now, or smartphones, are dumbing down our kids. They don’t know how to read a map because they have a global positioning system on their cell phones. Can they remember their friends’ numbers like we did back in the day? You could probably remember 10 or 15 numbers. I doubt they could remember one. Can they tell you north, south, east or west not using their cell phones? Can they tell you where the sun rises and sets without Googling it? That’s doubtful. Also, it’s a sad state of society because once the grid is shut down we’ve got a bunch of dummies walking around and they’re not self-sufficient.

President Donald Trump has said he wants to grow the economy at a rate of more than 4 percent a year. Good luck with that. Since the stock market crash of October 1929, the best any Republican president has done was Ronald Reagan who grew it at a rate of 3.1 percent. However, Democratic presidents fared much better. Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt grew it at 5.1 percent, former President Lyndon B. Johnson grew it at 3.9 percent, and former President Bill Clinton grew it at 3.7 percent so best of luck to you, Donald. You’ll never be as good as Reagan and we all know it.
