To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the Chicago Red Light Camera program, which was begun as a shakedown of area drivers to bring more lucre into the city coffers, which has seen people sent to jail over rampant corruption in the system, is now stuck with a bill to shell out $38.75 million in settlements. Perhaps, as Mayor Rahm Emanuel promised, the cameras didn’t promote safety after all…
