Little Dinos hunt at Gail Borden Library

Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is celebrating the back-to-school season with twenty new Little Dinos visiting all three Gail Borden Library locations through Sept. 15, according to a news release from the library district.

Families are encouraged to find Little Dinos and their secret dinosaur passwords. The Main Library is hosting twelve Little Dinos, the Rakow Branch five, and the South Elgin Branch three.

When people find 13 secret passwords, they can bring in the scavenger hunt expedition map to any library location for a prize. If people fill out all 20 secret passwords, as well as a special back-to-school secret password, they can submit their entry at any location for a chance to win a dinosaur backpack and a one-year family membership for DuPage Children’s Museum.

The Main Library is at 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, the Rakow Branch is located at 2751 W. Bowes Road, Elgin, and the South Elgin Branch is at 127 S. McLean Blvd., South Elgin.

Story time with preschooler at nature center

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is offering Story Time at the Nature Center for preschoolers, according to a news release from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

Story times are on Fridays — Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 1 — are from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The programs are held at Creek Bend Nature Center, within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

During Story Time, staff from the St. Charles Public Library bring books, finger plays and songs for children and infants through age five, along with their parents or caregivers.

Following each program, participants can experience the interactive exhibits within Creek Bend Nature Center.

ESO names new director, services manager

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra has promoted a long-time employee and hired a new patron services manager, according to a news release from the symphony.

Wendy Evans has been promoted to ESO Director of Community Engagement and Orchestra Personnel, and Audra Odzana has been named Patrons Services Manager.

Evans, an ESO musician in the first violin section since 1996, was hired as personnel manager in 2009, and Education and Outreach Manager in 2010. As Director of Orchestra Personnel, Evans manages the audition process, engages musicians for performances and handles all personnel issues. In her role as Director of Community Engagement, she oversees the Ainsworth Concerts for Youth, Traveling Ensembles, Masterclasses, Musician’s Care performances at Advocate Health Care hospitals, and Listeners Clubs events. She is the chair of the ESO Education Committee and co-hosts a radio program called “The Elgin Symphony Orchestra Listeners Club Radio Show,” which is also a monthly podcast.

Evans received a BM in violin performance from Morningside College, and a MM and Performance Certificate in Violin Performance from Northwestern University. In addition to the ESO, she has performed with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Florida Symphony and Omaha Symphony. She has appeared with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Italy and Charleston, South Carolina, the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.

Odzana has over 15 years of box office, subscription management and customer service experience, having worked as Audience Services Director of Paramount Theatre, and as Customer Service Director at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre. She started her box office and customer service career with Conservatory Theatre Arts at Webster University. Odzana has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising and Marketing from Webster University and continues to take business, marketing and customer service courses.

Kane County property tax due

David J. Rickert, Kane County treasurer, is reminding taxpayers that the second installment of property tax is due Sept. 1, according to a news release from the county.

If new or existing homeowners need a copy of the bill to remit payment, go to KaneCountyTreasurer.org or contact the treasurer’s office at 630-232-3565.

Taxpayers can mail the payment to the Treasurer’s Office, mail postmarked by Sept. 1 is considered on time, or drop the payment off in the property tax drop box, available 24 hours a day, behind Building (A) at the Government Center, 719 South Batavia Avenue, Geneva.

Payment can be made at some Kane County banks, for a list of locations, go to KaneCountyTreasurer.org.
