Oh boy, it’s been a banner few months in Springfield. We have a state budget and an historical school budget. Our legislators have to be proud as peacocks over all their hard work. Now, I can’t wait for the reports and columns revealing what they tacked onto those bills for themselves, their districts, and their pet projects and campaign donors.

I almost choked on the piece of toast I was swallowing when I read the comment that included, “What if conservatives complained about former first lady Michelle Obama? You would never hear the end of it.” What if? Conservatives constantly complained about Obama — she wore sleeveless dresses, her casual shoes are too expensive, she was mocked for trying to get children to eat healthier, for her White House kitchen garden, she was seen leading children in exercising, she took too many trips, she boosted White House expenses by having her mother live there, etc. People sure have short memories.

If the drinks containing sugar are as bad as the . . . ads claim, then the FDA should ban them. But that would defeat the real purpose of the tax, which is revenue. Stop insulting the public’s intelligence and end government overreach.
