Hesburgh lecture series at Bishop Noll

The Notre Dame Club of Northwest Indiana and Bishop Noll Institute will host a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Monday, entitled “Faith, Music, Mass, Action: What’s the Connection?” in the Bishop Noll theater, 1519 Hoffman St., Hammond. The lecture, by Rev. Michael Driscoll, Ph.D., a priest of the Diocese of Helena, Mont., and member of the University’s Theology Department, is part of the annual Hesburgh Lecture Series, sponsored by the University’s Alumni Association. Methodist Hospitals to offer classes, memorial service

Methodist Hospitals will offer the following programs to members of the Northwest Indiana community this month. Smoking Cessation classes, based on the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking Program, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday evenings through Nov. 13 on the Northlake campus, Conference Room A, 8701 Broadway, Merrillville. The Clothesline Project Exhibit returns to IU Northwest

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Indiana University Northwest invites the campus and community to view “The Clothesline Project” through Thursday in the Moraine Student Center, 3400 Broadway, Gary. The T-shirt exhibit is part of a national project to shed light on gender violence. Dovetailing with the Clothesline Project exhibit, Byron Hurt, nationally known gender violence prevention educator, will be speaking at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bruce W. Porter County 4-H National Youth Science Day

Porter County 4-H invites all students in fourth through 12th grade to take part in National Youth Science Day, which will be offered two times in October: 4-6 p.m. Friday at Kouts Public Library, 101 E. Porter Health Care System activities for breast cancer awareness month

Throughout October, Porter Health Care System is offering various activities to help raise awareness of breast cancer and the need for screening and early detection. Pink at Portage, a special event for women needing their annual mammogram, will be from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Women’s Center at Portage Hospital, 3630 Willowcreek Road, Portage. Women can get their annual mammograms and receive a complimentary brunch. This is a monthly event. More information and registration are at 219-983-8399. A Blow Away Breast Cancer flag raising ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Porter Regional Hospital’s front entrance, 85 E. U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso. The event, which is free and open to the public, incorporates stories from survivors and caregivers. The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk will start at 11 a.m. at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve, 178 E.. Sidewalk Road, Chesterton. PNW showcases Mayan-inspired art

Coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs through Sunday, Purdue University Northwest is exhibiting the Mayan Procession, a 14-piece collection of life-sized paintings depicting figures representative of indigenous Guatemalan groups, by noted artist Winifred Godfrey. In addition, a reception featuring Godfrey will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday in the the Student Union and Library, 2200 169th St., Hammond. The event is free and open to the public.
