I’m a Democrat, but I’m sick of Cook County. I will be voting against Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle next year when she runs for reelection, and I hope others will do the same. This sugary drink tax is ridiculous. I’m tired of the ridiculous taxes. I’m tired of paying more taxes so that county employees can retire at 50 years old. I believe in pensions, but not ones that allow a worker to retire at 50, and force tax payers to pay that individual (with increases) for 30-40 years depending on how long they live — it’s nuts. And I’m someone who supports reasonable pensions. Cook County needs to run more efficiently, and lay off unnecessary workers. They need to reform their pensions. Once they do that, Democrats will get my vote. Until then, I plan on voting for the Republican candidates.
I am watching a commercial on the soda tax. One man said it perfectly. Cook County politicians made the deficit and we have to pay for it. Well said sir.
Cook County may soon repeal the soda tax, but the damage is already done. The soda tax gave us the incentive to try buying groceries outside of Cook County. Comparing past Cook County grocery receipts to the new ones from Will County showed us that, even without the soda tax, the overall tax savings was significant. We will continue to buy groceries and gasoline in Will County. I feel bad for the businesses in Cook County that are suffering because of the tax and spend mentality of the Cook County Board.
