Chicago police are asking taxicab drivers to make sure the cameras in their cars are working after at least three drivers were robbed at gunpoint this month while dropping off passengers in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

In the cases, two men hail a taxi downtown between 2 and 4 a.m. and ask to be dropped off at either the 6700 block of South Perry Avenue or the 7400 block of South Harvard Avenue, according to a community alert.

As they are getting out, one man shows a handgun and robs the driver of cash, police said.

The first robbery happened Oct. 7 about 3:50 a.m. at the Harvard address.

On Oct. 12, a robbery of a taxi driver was reported about 3 a.m. The next day, a robbery near the Harvard address was reported about 2:15 a.m., police said.

The suspects were described to police as black men between 18 and 25, standing 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and and weighing 180 to 220 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to contact area south detectives at 312-747-8273.
