A 17-year-old boy was denied bail Friday afternoon in the shooting of man who was cooperating with federal agents in making a firearm purchase on the South Side, officials said.

Prosecutors said Hector Aguirre, 17, and the victim, 28, had known each other about four years before the Oct. 10 shooting.

The man had been working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and arranged to buy a Mach 10 and two 30-round magazines from Aguirre, prosecutors said at a bond hearing Friday.

The man and Aguirre planned to meet at a currency exchange near the 4600 block of South Western Avenue, but Aguirre changed the location and told the victim to meet him in a nearby alley, prosecutors said.

When the man went to the alley he saw Aguirre, who was smiling and dressed in all black. The man started to feel uneasy and looked over his shoulder to see if anyone was approaching. When he turned back around, Aguirre pulled out a large chrome revolver and pointed it at the man’s head, prosecutors said.

Aguirre fired one shot, hitting the man in the hand after the man tried to grab the revolver. After he was shot, the man ran away, but fell as Aguirre continued to shoot, hitting the victim in the other hand, prosecutors said.

The man then ran to an ATF agents’ vehicle and told them Aguirre shot him. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment. Part of the victim’s finger on his right hand will be amputated because of the severity of the wound, prosecutors said.

At the time of the shooting, police said the attack took place in the 2400 block of West 46th Street about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 10 and he was in good condition at Mount Sinai. “The victim is not being cooperative with police investigation. No offender in custody,” according to a police media notification.

Aguirre was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Aguirre is a Satan Disciple gang member belonging to the 42nd and Campbell faction.

He was denied bail at a hearing Friday.
