Authorities have identified the man who was killed when, police said, a driver intentionally rammed the pickup truck he was driving early Sunday.

Eduardo A. Pena, 21, was identified as the fatality, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He died after the vehicle pushed his 1998 Ford Ranger truck more than two blocks, until it struck a tree, police said. Pena was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. after he was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Pena’s car came to a stop in the 5700 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the South Side’s Gage Park neighborhood around 2:15 a.m. Pena lived just a little more than a mile away in the 5300 block of South Fairfield Avenue.

Chicago police are searching for the person who hit the truck in what they have characterized as a homicide investigation.
