McDonald’s Corp. founder Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald’s restaurant on April 15, 1955, in Des Plaines, Ill. The original red-and-white tiled building featuring the golden arches was remodeled several times before it was torn down in 1984. A museum replica with modifications stands in its place.
