In his position as President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani appeared on Fox News and made it clear that he will be an attack dog, going after the legitimacy of the special counsel’s investigation. He echoed Trump’s words by calling it a witch hunt and saying that there was no collusion.

He questioned the integrity of Robert Mueller, former FBI director, federal prosecutor, and decorated Vietnam veteran. Mueller has earned the respect of the law enforcement community and most members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans.

Giuliani attacked another former FBI director, James Comey, in an even more vicious and dishonest manner. He said that Comey is a pathological liar and a very perverted man. It is ironic that he would describe Comey as a pathological liar when he represents a man who best fits that description. In the interview, Giuliani said that Trump has reimbursed Michael Cohen for the $130,000 in hush money that Cohen had paid Stormy Daniels just days prior to the 2016 election. Trump has said that he did not know of the payment made to Daniels, thus providing another example of his dishonesty.

Giuliani had an impressive career as a federal prosecutor and mayor of New York. It is sad to see him lower himself by trying to discredit the special counsel’s investigation even before it is complete — regardless of what evidence Mueller may compile of collusion or criminality.

The Trump team’s strategy is to try and convince the American people that the investigation is a witch hunt and that the people running it are partisan, incompetent and dishonest. I don’t think they will be successful.
