When Cook County’s sweetened beverage tax was still in effect, I shared a great way for senior citizens to avoid paying it. Some fast-food restaurants . . . offer a complimentary beverage to seniors for every purchase they make. You can get a free refill too. The tax has been repealed but if you’re a senior citizen and enjoy an occasional fast-food restaurant, you can still take advantage of this freebie for seniors. Get a free drink and a free refill.

Let these politicians pay for their own gasoline. Let them pay for their own car just like we do going back and forth to work. Let these politicians forget these dinners. They’re always having dinners for this and that. Our taxpayers’ money is paying for it. Politicians jack up property taxes on homeowners. They vote all this stuff in. We pay for it all in the long run. Everything’s a mess. . .

We can’t win for losing. Finally, we are having spring weather but it comes with a price. On May 2, there was a thunderstorm that did damage in several areas. We don’t know what Mother Nature has in store for us from one season to another. Therefore, in life, we should not take anything for granted. One day you may have it all. The next day it could be taken away. Take life one day at a time. Roll with the punches and go with the flow.

If the Republicans get away with taking away people’s health care, just think of the black market it is going to create in life-sustaining medicines on the street.
