Just look around. An entire generation of children is growing up who will remember their parents paying more attention to their phones than they did to them.

Elected officials express concern over diminishing tax revenue and an inability to attract business. Homeowners continue to see their neighborhoods deteriorate and property values decline. How bad does it have to get before south suburban governments initiate proactive code and property maintenance enforcement? As rentals with absent landlords increase, the problem is exasperated and resident homeowners are understandably reluctant to make improvements in what were once investments. If you live in a community where these issues are addressed, don’t be angry, be thankful.

I think it is about time we set aside some admiration for our police, firefighters, veterans and mail carriers. It seems it is never mentioned the good they do, and we must wonder why they are never complimented for their sacrifice. May they always remain safe and remembered.

A writer questioned why some people say “he’s a good family man,” describing someone arrested for domestic violence. I believe it’s a good bet the person conducted himself differently in public than at home or some incident pushed the person over the edge. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors.
