For the first 15 months of Opal Lang’s life, every checkup seemed fine until her doctor noticed a slow heart beat. She is among 133 children between the ages of 1 to 5 years old across the country who are on a waiting list for a heart transplant. She spent the holidays at Lurie Children’s Hospital waiting for a heart transplant and on Christmas Eve, Cardinal Blase Cupich prayed with Opal’s parents. They have started chronicling their medical journey on Facebook, and have been surprised by the support of strangers.
