
A new pancake house has taken over the spot that was the Palos Hills Pancake House before it closed earlier this summer.
Dalia’s Pancake House opened last week at 10719 S. Roberts Road. It is open daily for breakfast and lunch with hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dalia’s features an extensive breakfast menu featuring pancakes, waffles, crepes, French toast and blintzes as well as omelettes, skillets, and steak and eggs. There is a lunch menu that features burgers, sandwiches and croissants.
Entenmann’s Outlet closing in Oak Lawn
It’s the end of an era for fans of Entenmann’s baked goods who shop at the outlet store in Oak Lawn.
The store at 10802 S. Cicero Ave., which has been around for 45 years, will close this week.
The exact closing date is up in the air. A sign on the front window indicated Friday, Aug. 23 is its final day. But a store employee said it remain open through Saturday.
Popular outlet store items such as bread, coffee cake, bagels and other sweets will continue to come in fresh until the day the store closes.
Bimbo Bakeries, USA, which owns the store, issued a release stating “These decisions are never easy, but as always it was made with careful consideration and analysis. Members of the community can still purchase their favorite Bimbo Bakeries products at grocery stores in the area.”
The Oak Lawn outlet is the only one left in the Chicago area. There are two others in Illinois, in Rockford and Moline.
New stores for Stony Creek Promenade
Two new stores have opened this month at Stony Creek Promenade in Oak Lawn.
Discount retailer TJ Maxx opened its store a week ago on Aug. 15 and its sister home décor store HomeGoods opened Sunday.
Both shops opened on the west end of the shopping center at 110th Street and Cicero Avenue.
Regular store hours for TJ Maxx are from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
T.J. Maxx made a $10,000 donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
HomeGoods is next door to TJ Maxx. Regular store hours are from 9:30 a.m. to -9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cal City pawn shop adds U-Haul
Cohen Brothers Pawn Shop, which opened last year in the former home of Harold G. Tease & Son, has become a U-Haul dealer.
The pawn shop at 1243 Hirsch Ave. in Calumet City is open from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
Cohen Brothers will offer U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment, moving supplies and in-store pick-up for boxes.
Owner Jacob Cohen said he was proud to team with the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage to better meet the demands of Cook County.
The Calumet City location was the company’s third site, and is the largest in the chain. Other sites are in Chicago’s South Chicago and Albany Park communities.
The Cohen family has been in the pawn business since 1950.
Culver’s to support Special Olympics
Culver’s restaurants throughout the south suburbs are partnering with Special Olympics Illinois in August with several events, including the fifth annual ButterBurgers & Badges fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 29.
ButterBurgers & Badges will feature local law enforcement officers providing table service for guests dining inside, and also delivering the chain’s famed burgers and fresh frozen custard desserts to those visiting the drive-thru.
Law enforcement officers will collect donations for their service and one dollar for every purchase of any size Culver’s Concrete Mixer will benefit Special Olympics. Special Olympics Illinois athletes will be on-site to meet and greet guests.
ButterBurgers & Badges is part of a month-long initiative by select Culver’s locations across Chicagoland. Participating stores will proudly display “Change for Champions” donation canisters near counter areas.
Funds raised will help Special Olympics Illinois continue its programs that provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Participating locations include: Bourbonnais, 983 N. Convent St.; Bridgeview, 9229 S. Harlem Ave.; Frankfort, 20592 S. LaGrange Road; Homewood, 850 183rd St.; Joliet, 219 S.
