Children decked out in Halloween costumes and their parents enjoyed some trick-or-treating on Main Street in downtown Oswego on Sunday.

Participating merchants gave away candy to costume-clad youngsters who stopped into their stores.

Erick and Aida Chavarria came with their daughters, Adelina, 8, and Anisa, 6, to take part in the event downtown.

“Community events as these and the schools were the reason we chose to live in Oswego,” Erick Chavarria said. The family relocated from the north side of Chicago 10 years ago.

“We like the small town feel of Oswego but it also has the activities of a big city,” he said.

Chavarria said he graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora and was familiar with the area, while his wife grew up in Chicago.

“We compared facts and Aida fell in love with Oswego,” he said.

A lot of families decided to go to Sunday’s Halloween event in downtown Oswego knowing Thursday’s forecast calls for rain and possibly snow showers.

Montgomery resident Carrie Gallo came with her daughter Allison, 4, and her 4-month-old son Elliot.

“It’s a pleasant sunny day to be out,” she said. “We also came to support the local merchants.”

Tiffany Bussey, of Montgomery, came with her son Kash, 3. The youngster was dressed as a policeman.

“This is our first downtown Halloween Walk. It’s a lot of fun,” she said.
