Comcast NBCUniversal awards $175,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in region
Comcast NBCUniversal has awarded scholarships to 70 students in the region as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. The program recognizes high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. The award is a one-time, $2,500 scholarship to be used toward undergraduate education-related expenses.
The following area students are among the recipients this year: Louis Baser of Lincoln-Way Central in New Lenox; Giselle Benitez Valdez of Bolingbrook High School; Lluvia Hernandez Aguirre of Rich East Campus in Park Forest; Chloe Honchar of Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort; Kaitlyn Jackson of Homewood-Flossmoor in Flossmoor; Grace Johnson of Lincoln-Way West in New Lenox; Haya Khalaf of Aqsa School in Bridgeview; and John Russell of Homewood-Flossmoor in Flossmoor.
Gaelic Park Irish Heritage scholarship awarded to Providence students
Rising seniors Kevin Conway of Mokena and Sarah McCarthy of Wilmington were selected as recipients of the Gaelic Park Irish Heritage Scholarship for the 2020-2021 school year.
Conway is a member of the football team and volunteers at the youth summer camps. He also volunteers his time at the NAWS animal shelter in Mokena. McCarthy is a member of the school’s award-winning marching band. She is also active in the school’s Habitat for Humanity student chapter that participates in summer builds throughout the country. She is also active in her parish volunteering for the Knights of Columbus fish fry each spring.
