Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley is seeking candidates to fill a city council vacancy following the recent resignation of Ald. Norman Leader, who represented Ward 2 for nearly 16 years.

Interested candidates who reside in the ward are being asked to complete an official application, which can be downloaded from the city’s website, https://www.elmhurst.org/DocumentCenter/View/436/Appointed-Official-Application

Applicants are also encouraged to submit resumes and letters of intent with their applications. Applications can be emailed to CityAdmin@elmhurst.org or mailed to the City Clerk’s Office at 209 N. York Street, and will be accepted through the close of business on Friday, Oct. 2.

Leader said in a phone conversation this week that he has moved from Elmhurst to Kenosha, WI, for several reasons, including wanting to live near Lake Michigan.

Leader was first elected in 2005 and would have finished his fourth term next year. His appointed replacement will serve until the April 2021 election. Leader, who served in the Army Medical Corps, has been a passionate and articulate voice for veterans on the council.

“We are thankful for his dedication to our community,” Morley said in his statement, “and wish him the very best.”
