Good morning, Chicago.

Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder has insisted on preventing politics from playing a role in Kyle Rittenhouse’s high-profile trial, which resumes Monday. Legal experts and even some of the jurors, however, have suggested the highly charged political environment will be hard to cast aside.

“I’m always amused when a judge asks if a juror can set something aside and promise to give a fair trial. What do the jurors do? Come in in the morning and there’s a bag marked ‘feelings,’ and they just dump them in there and walk into the jury room?” one veteran Chicago defense attorney told the Tribune.

Key testimony is expected Monday from a medic who was shot trying to stop Rittenhouse from fleeing the scene after killing two men.

What went wrong with Dixmoor’s water? How squabbling and crumbling infrastructure left thousands in Chicago suburb without ‘a human right.’

Thousands of Dixmoor residents spent much of October without reliable water, a crisis that caused schools and businesses to close, resulted in a weekslong boil order and sent people scrambling to the homes of family and friends — or even hotels — to meet basic needs.

Water pressure has returned to Dixmoor, for now. But a Tribune review of court and village documents revealed the south suburb has experienced water problems for at least two years, with little success in rectifying them.
