I filed a Witness Slip for HB3067 this past Monday and by week’s end the hearing was canceled in the House Energy and Environment Commission. Incredibly frustrating. We literally don’t have this kind of time. Polystyrene foam must go!
It is dangerous to the health of humans, our planet and wildlife. Passing legislation to transition Illinois away from single use plastics will help us out of a very vicious cycle. We are all enabling the manufacturing of an extremely harmful material while at the same time feeling and seeing its negative impacts forever. How could there not be a warning label plastered all over everything made with polystyrene foam by now? This is a product with so much baggage and should be banned throughout Illinois.
Let’s finally recognize the severity of our actions and phase out polystyrene food service containers for our own safety – they’re literally wrecking us forever. We can work together to move towards safer, healthier solutions and all agree that what we need is reuse.
I can’t believe there’s a risk of this bill not passing in Springfield this year. Can’t we get something right?
