Beginning on June 17, the City of Evanston’s Fire Department and Water Production Bureau will be testing nearly 1,400 fire hydrants throughout the city.

Testing will continue through Aug. 1 and may cause some slight discoloration to residents water if hydrants nearby are being tested. If this occurs, residents should flush their pipes until the water runs clear.

Drivers should proceed with caution if encountering a hydrant being flushed into the street. If passage is not possible, drivers should wait for testing to be complete or take another route.
