It appears Kane County Clerk John “Jack” Cunningham will get a chance to run for a sixth term in the general election in the fall.
According to unofficial final results in Tuesday’s primary election, the 83-year-old Republican had 54.7% of the vote, to 37.1% for GOP challenger Douglas Warlick.

Cunningham has been the clerk in Kane County for 20 years, and his opponent in Tuesday’s primary, Geneva attorney Douglas Warlick, made that an issue.
Warlick had said that being in office 20 years “is long enough for anybody.” He also proposed there be a blue ribbon election commission with county clerks statewide to look at the election system. He said “people need to feel the elections are honest, people need to feel confident.”

Cunningham said there was a “misconception about voter fraud,” saying it does not exist in Kane County. He said he plans to change out equipment with newer models, and work to keep Kane County with some of the most transparent elections in the country.
He also said establishing a satellite office in Elgin, similar to what has been done in Aurora, is a priority.
The Republican winner will face Democrat Nicolas G. “Nico” Jimenez in November. He was unopposed in his primary race Tuesday.
