Beginner pickleball clinic being held at Centre of Elgin
Registration is underway for pickleball clinic for beginners to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 25, the Schock Centre of Elgin fieldhouse, 100 Symphony Way.
The session is geared toward those who are new to the game. The cost is $18 for Elgin residents and $20 for nonresidents.

Voters can cast early ballots in the April 4 consolidated election for all Kane County precincts at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, starting March 20.

9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 25;

Hanover wins grant for mental health-related program
The Hanover Township Department of Aging Services has received a $40,000 grant from Oak Park-based nonprofit AgeOptions to help fund a mental health-related program for older adults.
The Program to Encourage Active Rewarding Lives, known as PEARLS, allows trained Hanover staff to help train people to learn problem-solving skills for problems they’re currently experiencing or future situations, a news release said.

Dundee Library collecting LEGO bricks, planning train expo
The Dundee Library in East Dundee is collecting LEGO bricks in March for nonprofit groups and will be holding a LEGO train expo in early April.
Used LEGO bricks and related items can be dropped off at the 555 Barrington Ave. library from March 12 through April for donation to LEGO Replay, which provides them to Boys & Girls Clubs and other children’s organizations. Donations of new LEGO sets will be given to Bricks of Hope, which gives them to hospitalized children.
The Northern Illinois Lego Train Club Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 2. Custom-built LEGO trains will be set up to travel through various landscapes featuring made of LEGO amenities and figures, according to the library.

St. Patrick’s fireworks show to honor pyrotechnician
The organizers of the Thom McNamee Memorial Dundee St. Patrick’s Day Parade in East and West Dundee have officially named their annual fireworks display for the James McCulla Jr.
McCulla, who died in 2021 at age 54, was a master pyrotechnician and the original creator of the annual St. Patrick’s Day-related fireworks show.
This year’s fireworks display will start at dusk Saturday, March 18, from the footbridge on the Fox River, just east of Rosie O’Hare’s Public House, 702 Water St., East Dundee.

EYSO holding concerts Sunday at ECC’s Blizzard Theatre
The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra will presents its “99% Invisible” concert at 2, 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Elgin Community College’s Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive.
Ten ensembles will perform as part of the program, which will feature the Overture to The Wreckers by Dame Ethel Smyth, a British composer of the late 1800s, and Symphony XI No. 2 in D Major by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St. George, a prominent Black composer of the 18th century.

Chamber on the Fox presenting recital at Dundee church
Chamber on the Fox will present a recital featuring the Kaia String Quartet and pianist Liang-yu Wang at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, at First Congregational Church of Dundee, 900 S. 8th St., West Dundee.
They will also offer virtual concerts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28. The piano quintets of Florence Price and Amy Beach will be performed.
