Program on turtles, tortoises being held at Hawthorne Hill

Kane Area Rehabilitation and Education for Wildlife will give a presentation on turtles and tortoises for children ages 3 and older from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center in Elgin.

The organization is known at K.A.R.E. for short, and is a St. Charles-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing young or injured animals and educating the public about wildlife that makes its home in Kane County.

Admission is $5 for children and $8 for adults. The center is located at 28 Brookside Drive.

Dundee Township holding community fest, fireworks event

The Dundee Township Park District is holding a community gathering followed by a fireworks display Saturday, June 24, in Meadowdale Park, located at LW Besinger Drive and Maple Avenue in Carpentersville.

The event will feature live entertainment, food vendors and special attractions, such as a climbing tree, from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., the park district’s website said.

In case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled for 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25.

Summer celebration this weekend at Randall Oaks Zoo

Randall Oaks Zoo in West Dundee will be celebrating the start of summer with family activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25.

There will be free games, kids crafts, summer treats for sale and hayrides available at $3 per person. Zoo animals will be fed watermelon throughout the day, a news post said.

Regular admission rates of $5 for residents and $5.50 for nonresidents apply (free for children 1 and younger and members of the U.S. military with ID).

‘Woofstock’ fundraiser being held Sunday in East Dundee

The 10th annual Woofstock fundraiser for Hoof, Woof & Meow Animal Rescue will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 25, outside The Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee.

Live music, kid-friendly crafts, sponsor booths, raffles and a chance to meet adoptable animals will be featured. There’s no admission fee but organizers will be collecting donations to help support the nonprofit, volunteer-run rescue located in Elgin.
