A second man was charged Tuesday in connection with a drug dealer lured to an apartment where he was shot dead leaving.
Davion “Ray-Ray” Dean, 27, is charged with murder, murder perpetration of a robbery and three counts of attempted robbery.
He is in custody and is being held without bail.
Dean made a court appearance Tuesday where a magistrate appointed a public defender. His next hearing is June 30.
Co-defendant Brandon “FettyBando” McFadden was charged April 5 as the alleged shooter in the March 30 death of Jordan Miller, 24, of East Chicago.
Miller died from six gunshots to the torso, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. His death was ruled a homicide.
Gary Police arrived at 1:40 p.m. on March 30 to the 4400 block of Delaware Street, where a young man laid on the front steps of a small apartment building.
Witnesses said Miller and another man were there to sell drugs, according to the affidavit.
Police found a handgun on Miller’s body, which was unused, and noted the apartment’s back door was “barricaded.”
A witness said a man named “Ray-Ray” called Miller “several times” to get marijuana and mushrooms. The man was a longtime customer, according to court records.
Miller went inside, while the other man stayed in the car.
About five seconds later, Miller walked out. A man named “FettyBando” (McFadden) shot him from behind, then stood over the body, according to the affidavit. A third man with Miller returned fire, then ran into an alley, court records state.
“Ray-Ray” and “FettyBando” ran back into the apartment.
Dean was “misleading” about his role to police, according to court records.
He had lived there, but moved out three months earlier. That morning, he ran errands, then “stayed home,” “smoked” and “chilled” with his family.
Dean said he was supposed to get drugs from Miller and the man with him, but his phone died.
He knew “FettyBando,” who knew “Jordan.”
Dean didn’t “set anyone up” and didn’t see “(expletive)”, according to court records.
McFadden was a “shooter” and he wouldn’t “put it past him to kill somebody,” the affidavit states.
McFadden was arrested on the 3900 block of Tennessee Street with a “red-like substance” on his pants. Besides the murder charge, he had an active warrant for a probation violation.
Court records show Dean is on bond for dealing cocaine and a handgun possession case.
