As wildfires continue to burn across North America from California to Canada and the Carolinas, experts say climate change is only worsening their intensity, frequency and reach.

Warmer weather and drier conditions due to climate change means wildfire season is starting earlier and lasting longer, contributing to record-breaking fires and hazardous air quality. And the effect of this? Weather experts say fewer and fewer Americans are out of reach from deadly fires and billowing smoke.

The interactive map below uses the latest available fire data to track active fires burning in the United States.

Each point represents an active fire. Users can click on each point for more information on that fire, including its precise location, cause, acres burned and more.
