DePaul announced Tuesday it has extended athletic director DeWayne Peevy’s contract until June 2027.
Peevy was named AD in August 2020 and a year later added the title of vice president and a seat on the university president’s cabinet. He is the ninth athletic director in school history and is beginning his fourth year after succeeding longtime AD Jean Lenti Ponsetto.
“I’m pleased the board agreed with my recommendation to extend DeWayne’s multiyear contract,” DePaul President Robert L. Manuel said in a statement. “I look forward to our continued work together as we develop partnerships within our university community, enhance student engagement, grow our national visibility and invest further in our shared success.”
Peevy said in a statement: “I am humbled by how much we have accomplished together in just a short amount of time and energized when I think about DePaul’s future.”
A list of those accomplishments detailed by the university Tuesday includes advances on a five-year strategic plan, a department-wide restructuring, the creation of DEI and health-related jobs in athletics, fundraising toward capital improvements and the construction of a basketball practice facility and fully funding the maximum scholarships allowed under NCAA rules for each sport.
DePaul sponsors 15 NCAA sports in the Big East Conference.
Peevy also is credited with implementing digital ticketing at all DePaul venues, creating a partnership with name, image and likeness (NIL) brand-building platform INFLCR and launching a branding initiative that resulted in the “resurgence of the iconic Billy Blue Demon vintage logo.”
Peevy has 26 years of experience in college sports with stops at the Gulf South Conference, Southeastern Conference and Kentucky, where he was deputy AD when DePaul hired him.
