A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when he struck an SUV that made a left-hand turn in front of him in the intersection of Naper Boulevard and Chicago/Maple avenues, Naperville police said.
Dante Fields, 26, of Woodridge, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision that occurred shortly before 9:35 p.m., according to a police department news release.
Per the preliminary investigation, Fields was driving a 2024 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Chicago Avenue at a “high rate of speed” when he went through the intersection on a green light, the release said. At the same time, the driver of a 2024 VinFast SUV made a left turn from westbound Maple Avenue to southbound Naper Boulevard (Chicago Avenue becomes Maple Avenue just east of Naper Boulevard) and Fields struck the passenger side door, the release said.
Life-saving measures were attempted by Naperville police and fire personnel but Fields could not be revived, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed as of early Friday afternoon. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the police department’s Traffic Unit at 630-420-8833.
