
The Conservation Foundation’s Dickson-Murst Farm in Montgomery will offer a taste of what farm life was like in the past during the Day at the Dickson-Murst Farm event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17.
Dickson-Murst Farm is at 2550 Dickson Road in Montgomery, south of Route 30 and north of Galena Road.
The free event on Aug. 17 will feature children’s crafts, activities and play spaces, hayrides, barrel train rides, farm equipment and harvesting demonstrations, face painting, a chance to meet farm animals and more, according to a press release about the event.
Participants can watch a set of horses plowing the field at the farm and a 1913 Port Huron Steam Engine running a 1909 International Harvestor Separator to thresh oats, officials said.
Antique trucks and tractors will be on display and all of the restored historic farm buildings will be open for exploration, according to the release.
Free parking is available and the event will go on rain or shine, organizers said.

Retired college automotive instructor Bill O’Connell will answers question about car buying, maintenance and repair during a program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.

Naper Settlement getting nostalgic with ’80s theme day
Naper Settlement is heading back to the 1980s with a special themed day on Saturday, Aug. 9.
A 1980s-style photo shoot will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Murray House on the Settlement’s Naperville campus, 523 S. Webster St. Participants can dress in their favorite ’80s attire, and props and accessories will be provided to enhance the look.
Photo shoots will be scheduled in 15-minute increments, with advance registration required, a news release said.
Participants can show off their look by taking part in a fashion parade from 1 to 2 p.m. starting at the settlement’s Memorial Chapel. Advance registration is required.
The photo shoot and parade are included in general admission to the museum campus, which is $12 for anyone 13 or older, $10 for seniors 62 and older, $8 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children under 4. Naperville residents also get in free with proof of residency.
