Gurnee police say that burglars committed a rash of break-ins throughout the village early Wednesday, affecting more than a dozen businesses.
Police said they were dispatched just before 4 a.m. Wednesday to a business in the 400 block of Riverside after numerous burglar alarms were triggered. Several windows had been shattered at a business, police said.
Police said the burglary was part of a coordinated effort, and that 15 businesses reported incidents.
The burglars took cash registers at some spots, though other businesses reported nothing missing. The total amount of stolen cash remains under investigation, police said.
Surveillance video showed several subjects wearing masks and gloves breaking the front windows of the businesses. The suspects had left the area by the time police were alerted.
Gurnee police said its officers are diligently working to identify the people responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call GPD at (847) 599-7000, or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222. Tips can also be left anonymously at the Crime Stoppers website.
