No injuries were reported after a small, single-engine plane made an emergency landing Wednesday night on the Highlands of Elgin golf course, officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration notified Elgin police around 8:20 p.m. that a plane was preparing to land due to mechanical trouble, according to a press release from the city of Elgin. The plane had taken off from DuPage Airport in West Chicago.

Elgin police and firefighters responded to the scene and found the aircraft had landed safely on the golf course at 875 Sports Way in Elgin, according to the release.

Elgin Police Sgt. Hector Gutierrez said no one was injured during the incident. The two occupants of the plan were evaluated by Elgin firefighters as a precaution, he said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is handling the investigation into the emergency landing, the release said.

This is the second emergency landing by an aircraft on an Elgin golf course this year. In March, a Chicago TV news helicopter made an emergency landing at Wing Park Golf Course, 1010 Wing St. in Elgin, while covering a news story. No one was injured.
