This fall, Naperville Public Library is introducing a new initiative for teens who would like to propose and develop their own library programs.
The Teen Pitch Program will allow teens to gain real-world experience in conceptualizing an idea, developing a sales pitch and troubleshooting any problems that may arise when bringing their vision to life.
“The teens in our city are truly exceptional,” says Ellen Fitzgerald, director of public services at 95th Street Library and chair of the Teen Pitch Program committee. “Every year, we receive multiple requests from kids who are interested in partnering with the library to develop a new program or event for the community. These students understand the library is where people go to learn and grow, and they want to be a part of that process.”
As a part of the Teen Pitch Program, groups of two to five teens currently enrolled in grades 7 through 12 can submit a program proposal for consideration. Programs can be a technology-related program for older adults, a specialized storytime for little readers, a STEM-inspired craft or anything in between.
The application form is available now through Sept. 15 at www.naperville-lib.org/pitch. To get started, teens should review the application guidelines and resources to help shape their ideas into a compelling pitch.
Once the application window closes, the library will review all submissions. The top five teams will be invited to give a brief in-person presentation about their proposed program. From this group, the top one to three teams will be selected to move forward with planning and running their event. The library will support the chosen teams by providing supplies, resources and assistance as they prepare their programs for launch in spring 2026.
Fitzgerald adds, “The Teen Pitch Program builds teen-led initiatives into our schedule. It also offers teens the opportunity to learn about project management and event planning while giving back to the community.”
Those who are new to event planning are also welcome to participate. Library staff will provide guidance throughout every step of the process, from brainstorming to event execution.
Whether they’re interested in planning an educational workshop, a fun activity or an event that brings the entire community together, the Teen Pitch Program offers teens an opportunity to share their passions and build real-world skills along the way.
