
Park district plans Halloween-themed events in October
The Naperville Park District has several events planned to get the community into the Halloween spirit.
Educational activities for families are available at Knoch Knoll Nature Center as part of its annual Creepy Critters Month throughout October. Drop-in hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the center, 320 Knoch Knolls Road.
Self-guided activities about fungus, slime, spiders, bats and more will be available. Families can participate in an indoor scavenger hunt to earn a Halloween-themed prize. No advance registration is required.
Summer Place Theatre storytellers will be sharing bone-chilling stories in the annual “Ghost Stories in the Park … in the Dark” event at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3; 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4; and 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Sindt Court.
Stories are recommended for children ages 6 and older. Tickets are $7 each and can be bought online at www.napervilleparks.org or in person during business hours at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center or Fort Hill Activity Center.
The free Halloween Happening designed for children ages 10 and younger will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion. Children can dress in costumes, play games and collect candy. The event also includes Tot Town for children 5 and younger.
According to district guidelines, all costumes must be family-friendly. Props or accessories that resemble or could be mistaken for real weapons are not permitted, and all masks must allow for clear peripheral vision.

Pavilion rental applications for winter start Oct. 2
Residents who want to book a Naperville Park District pavilion or picnic area for use in the winter may begin submitting their rental applications at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2.
Nonresidents can apply starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9.
The winter season runs from Jan. 1 through March 31, park district officials said.
Several pavilions and picnic areas are available to rent, including DuPage River Park Pavilion, Frontier Sports Complex-East Pavillon, Knoch Knolls Frank J. Rus Pavilion, Knoch Knolls Park Lower Grove, Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, Seager Park Pavilion and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park Pavilion.
Rental requests must be made at least three weeks in advance. Renters must be 21 or older, officials said.
