
‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Ghostbusters II’ being screening at Hemmens
The film comedies “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters II” will be shown for free Saturday, Oct. 18, on the lawn outside The Hemmens Cultural Center in downtown Elgin.
Programming starts at 6 p.m., with the first movie set to be shown at 7 p.m.
The night will include photo ops with movie props and characters before the show, according to Elgin’s website. Both films will be shown with Spanish subtitles. Food, drinks and a cash bar will be available.

Flu shots available at Elgin, Hanover township events
Flu shots will be available at events in Elgin and Bartlett being held by state Sen. Cristina Castro, D-Elgin.
“Getting an annual flu shot can help keep you and your family safe as we head into flu season,” Castro in a news release. “I’m glad my office is able to provide these convenient opportunities for residents to get a flu vaccine and protect themselves from illness this fall and winter.”
The events, being sponsored by Castro is partnership with Ascension Illinois, Elgin Township and Hanover Township, are open to residents 18 and older and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon:
- Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Elgin Township Building, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin;
- Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Carpentersville holding village staff appreciation event
Carpentersville Village Hall will be closed from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, for an employee appreciation event.
The building will reopen to the public from 3 to 4:30 p.m., according to the village’s website. The post thanks people for understanding as Carpentersville “takes a moment to thank the people who keep our village strong every day.”

St. Hugh of Lincoln, Journey of Hope hosting fundraisers
Two neighboring Elgin churches located at Randall Road and Highland Avenue are holding fall fundraisers on Saturday, Oct. 18.
St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church will host a Treats & Treasures event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with vendors selling home and seasonal décor, handcrafted items, jewelry, vintage collectibles, home baked desserts and other items, according to a news release. St. Hugh’s is located at 36W957 Highland Ave.
Journey of Hope United Methodist Community Church’s Gingerbread Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local artisans will be selling handcrafted gift items. Visitors can enjoy a complimentary slice of gingerbread, purchase a light lunch and shop the bake sale. Journey of Hope is located at 37W040 Highland Ave.

Trunk-or-treating at Symonds Madison Funeral Home
Symonds Madison Funeral Home in Elgin will host trunk-or-treating from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in its parking lot at 305 Park St.
The family-friendly Halloween event will feature decorated vehicle trunks and free candy, according to a Symonds Madison social media post. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.
