At least three people were reported dead, and three others were critically injured overnight in an extra-alarm fire in the West Ridge neighborhood, fire officials said.
Police and firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex in the 7000 block of North Rockwell Street, where a fire broke out in the rear of a four-story apartment building shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, officials said. The fire was elevated to a 2-11 alarm, which summoned additional fire personnel and equipment to the scene.
A woman was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, a teenage girl was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago as well as a boy, officials said.
Chicago police later said three male victims, who are unidentified at this time, were pronounced on scene.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.
