
Shakespeare comedy ‘Twelfth Night’ being staged at ECC
The Lord Chamberlain’s Men will present William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “Twelfth Night” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the Blizzard Theatre in Building H on Elgin Community College’s Spartan Drive campus.
The Lord Chamberlain’s Men are a United Kingdom acting troupe named after Shakespeare’s original touring company, according to the ECC website. They stage Shakespeare’s plays as they originally were performed by an all-male cast in authentic Elizabethan costumes, the site said.
“Twelfth Night” involves mistaken identities, love triangles and wordplay in a story centered on Viola, who disguises herself as a man when shipwrecked.
Tickets are $35. Children 12 and younger are free with the purchase of a regularly priced ticket.
West Dundee hosting ‘Freaky Friday’ Halloween party
West Dundee’s “Finally Freaky Friday” Halloween party will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, outside the Riverfront Pump House, 98 Oregon Ave.
The free event features costume contests for adults and children, candy, live music, and food and beverages for sale, according to a social media post.

Janus Theatre Company presenting ‘Merchant of Venice’
William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” will be staged by the Janus Theatre Company on weekends betwee Friday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St.
The streamlined production runs 90 minutes with no intermission. Director Sean Hargadon and company reimagine Shakespeare’s comic drama through a modern lens, according to the Janus website.
Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. The only exception is Saturday, Oct. 25, when the show will be presented at 2 p.m. because “Nightmare on Chicago Street” is being held downtown that night.

Applications available for township holiday programs
Hanover Township families facing financial hardships can apply now for the annual December holiday sponsor-a-family and toy drive programs.
The township is also seeking sponsors for families in need and for toy donations, according to a news release.
Applications for holiday aid will be accepted online through Friday, Dec. 5, and in person at the Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., Hanover Park, through Friday, Dec. 12.
“Last year 795 families were sponsored, with more than 1,850 kids receiving gifts,” Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire said in the release. “We understand that providing an enjoyable experience during the holidays can be financially difficult and encourage struggling parents and guardians to apply for these programs.”
