
The son of a woman involved in a domestic fight was arrested Friday night after he fatally shot his mother’s boyfriend at her birthday party in the Bucktown neighborhood, according to a police report.
Shortly after 10:35 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 2000 block of North Leavitt Street. Police determined a 53-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend when it turned physical and her son pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the victim inside the residence, police said.
The victim suffered multiple wounds to the body, and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The gunman remained on the scene and was placed into custody. According to a police report obtained by the Tribune, the alleged gunman is a son of a woman who was having a birthday party at the residence. According to the police report, her son overheard a fight between his mother and her boyfriend, then came out of a bedroom and shot the boyfriend.
The shooting remains under investigation.
