Foundation gives free lunches at Silver Cross

The Jay It Forward foundation, founded by Michele and Tom Vana, provided 1,000 free lunches to staff, patients and visitors at Silver Cross Hospital last month outside its Outpatient Testing Center entrance, Pavilion A.

The project was done in memory of their son Jay, who died after a car accident in September 2012. The foundation performs a random act of kindness in the community every year on that anniversary.

This isn’t the first time the Vanas family has contributed to Silver Cross. Three years ago they made a gift to the hospital to support Will County’s first and only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Silver Cross Hospital, according to a news release. The hospital named it the Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit after the couple’s triplets. The couple also enhanced the hospital’s emergency services and paramedic training program in 2017, along with Tom’s mother, Marilyn Kurtz.
