A 19-year-old University Park resident on a bike was struck by an Amtrak train and killed Thursday morning at the railroad crossing at University Parkway and Governor’s Highway, police said in a statement.

University Park Police and Fire departments responded and found the man, identified by the Will County coroner Friday as Richard E. Laba Jr., unresponsive and performed life saving measures. Laba was pronounced dead at the scene.

The railroad crossing at University Parkway and Governor’s Highway was closed to traffic during investigation, police said.

The investigation includes the Will County sheriff’s office and police from the Canadian National Railroad, Amtrak, Metra and Monee.

University Park police encouraged anyone with information to call the Police Department.
