One person died and two others were injured Sunday in a two-car collision on Route 31 near Gentle Breeze Terrace in Carpentersville, officials said.
Carpentersville police and fire were called about 3:45 a.m. and arrived to find people trapped inside both vehicles, Carpentersville Fire Chief Bill Anaszewicz via email.
The name of the person who died will be released after family members have been notified, Kane County Chief Deputy Coroner Loren Carrera said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that one car was northbound on Route 31 and the other southbound when the collision occurred, a Carpentersville Police Department news release said.
Carpentersville police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are involved in the investigation, the release said. Reconstruction of the scene resulted in Route 31 being closed for six hours Sunday.
